Record Breaking Children in Need!

Posted 17 November Allan Gallop

2014 marked Celestra’s 5th year of supporting Children in Need. From themes such as “Colour Wars” to “Pirates vs Sailors”, we’ve had lots of fun over the years raising money for this worthy cause.x

This year we chose ‘Battle of the Masks’ as our theme. We decided to be ambitious and aim to raise £2,000! To achieve this target, the team was divided into 6 groups to fundraise. To liven up lunchtime, delicious Mexican and Indian dishes were prepared and sold. Celestra even had its own version of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ which Team Sue won with their Pudsey cake. There was also a selection of classic games throughout the week such as ‘Guess the number of sweets in the jar’, darts and a Wii tournament.

Our Configuration Technician, Mat was a real fundraising hero! Having grown his hair for over 10 years, he made the courageous decision to shave it all off. In total Mat raised over £400, donating his hair to the Little Princess Trust charity to help children that have lost their own hair through cancer or other illnesses.

On the Friday, the team made a huge effort to dress up using the ‘mask’ theme. This resulted in Boba Fett, tigers, alligators and even Monsters Inc’s Sully being in the office for the day!

A range of competitions ran throughout the day including twister, arm wrestling and a face mask relay. The ‘Guess what’s in the Box’ game also took place, which saw members of the team placing their hand in 6 different boxes and guessing what object was inside.

The day ended very sweetly with a ‘pie in the face’ event. The teams submitted blind bids to determine which of the 11 nominees would be ‘pied in the face’. This event raised over £100 with our Director, Mark and two coordinators getting pied!

The games brought out a friendly rivalry between the teams resulting in Team Sue and Team Lee competing for first place. However, a sudden death hula hoop playoff gave the win of the day to Team Lee!

With the fantastic effort made by everyone at Celestra and the generous help and support of our clients, suppliers, partners and friends we managed to raise a record breaking £2,340 with donations still coming in!

There is still time to donate at our JustGiving page, pictures and updates from the day can be found on our Facebook page.
